The McLean Residence balances the tension between the desire for expansive glazing, and an urban home that feels private, protected, and cozy. In the suburbs of Northern Virginia, expansive glass can often be a liability, but here, it provides a natural connection to the manicured corner lot.

Collaborating with interactive VR modeling early in the process, allowed the owners to walk through the digital version of their home long before construction. Virtually walking through the home together, we were able to balance light, privacy and views.

What results is a building envelope that is as high-performing as it is connected to the outdoors. The finished home is a quiet, resilient sanctuary.
